The law is the law in South Orange County. Even a little driveway show can earn you a violation. (Pixabay)

While most Orange County suburbs had some of their biggest and best fireworks displays this year, there were still hundreds of 'unofficial shows' ranging from big mortars to small illegal sparklers. Orange County Sheriff's department was on patrol and issuing hundreds of tickets.

According to Sheriff's Blotter at http://ws.ocsd.org, patriotic San Clemente rallied the most citations on our list, with Mission Viejo close behind.  The data is from the last 6-7 days.

Sample violation data:

San Clemente; 64

Mission Viejo; 51

San Juan Capistrano; 37

Laguna Niguel; 31

Dana Point Harbor; 24

Dana Point; 21

Ladera Ranch; 18

Rancho Mission Viejo; 6

Laguna Beach; 0

San Clemente and Ladera Ranch had several early wick-starters picking up violations as early as June 30th.  In Laguna Beach, either everyone is just that darn safe, or citations are not logged.  Most fireworks citations were obviously issued on July 4th, so if you believe the police wouldn't hear your fireworks over the big show, you may have been sorely mistaken.
